March 1st Independence Movement Day (Samiljeol) is a Korean national holiday commemorating March 1, 1919, when the Korean people declared independence from Japanese colonial rule.
On this day, peaceful demonstrations began in Seoul and quickly spread nationwide, with citizens shouting “Long Live Korean Independence.” The movement became a significant turning point that led to the establishment of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea.
Samiljeol is a meaningful day to honor the courage and sacrifice of those who fought for Korea’s freedom and independence.
